Getting to the beautiful Dordogne region in South-West France is easier than you might think, whether you’re travelling by car, plane or train. Below you’ll find our handy travel tips to help you plan a smooth and stress-free journey.

Travelling to Dordogne by Car (and Ferry)

Driving to Dordogne is a popular option, especially for families or those bringing pets. From the Eurotunnel or Channel ports, the journey time is approximately 9 hours, depending on traffic and route.

Many travellers choose to drive:

  • Via Paris, ideal if you’d like to break the journey with a city stop

  • Via Rouen, a quieter route that avoids central Paris

If you’re travelling by ferry, DFDS and Brittany Ferries offer a wide range of crossings from the UK. Overnight ferries from Portsmouth or Plymouth to Santander or Bilbao are also a great alternative, followed by an easy 6-hour drive to Périgueux through northern Spain and into France.

Flying to Dordogne

  • Bordeaux

  • Limoges

  • Brive-la-Gaillarde

Additional European connections are available with Air France, KLM and British Airways. Flight availability varies seasonally, with the widest choice during spring and summer.
