Location

Locale

Cherveix-Cubas, lying on the Auvezere river and less than a kilometre down the hill, has two good restaurants, a grocery, boulangerie, pharmacy, hairdressers and post office.

Less than 5km away lies Hautefort, with its architectural gem of a 17th century chateau and gardens. Under the castle walls you will find excellent restaurants, as well as more small shops. En route to Hautefort is a well stocked supermarket 'Intermarche' and petrol/gas station.

Dordogne is a great region for walking and cycling, with rolling hills, valleys and woodland. Horse riding and canoeing can be found nearby, hot air balloon flights and quad biking can be arranged.

In the Auvezere valley, winding to the north, attractions include an old forge, a paper mill, and one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, Segur le Chateau. Segur has an excellent farmer's market on Monday evenings in July and August, a lively venue where you can enjoy a barbecue run by the villagers. A little further on is Pompadour, site of the French National Stud and a beautiful race course overlooked by a chateau - a fantastic spot for a Sunday at the races... perhaps after a Sunday morning at the street market which takes over the nearby town of Objat.

The region is of course renowned for its prehistoric caves, including the world-famous Lascaux less than 30 minutes away, as well as the geological wonders at Tourtoirac, just 7km from the house, with its extensive galleries of stalactites. Other caves in the area include one which is toured by train and another by boat on an underground lake.

The A89 autoroute lies 15 minutes to the south, and provides rapid access to the west coast and the wine region of Bordeaux, and to the east to the Correze, Auvergne in the Massif Central with its majestic ancient volcanoes and ski resorts.

We had a great holiday in this beautiful house. The pool is fantastic and was great as the weather was very hot on some days. The views from the house are breathtaking and the deer roam free in and out of the forest at the end of the garden. So beautiful. The garden is great for stargazing at night if the sky is clear. If you go in July and august you might see some shooting stars. We saw loads. The local village is lovely and has two nice restaurants . both serve delicious traditional French food . We went canoeing one day and that was fun. It’s very safe to go there with younger children. Chateau de Hautefort is nearby and worth a visit . It’s history is very interesting and the gardens are beautiful. There are supermarkets in Hautefort which is a short drive from tge house. The house itself is well equipped for everything you need. We had fun playing table tennis and reading the many books on the bookshelves. There are plenty of places to sit in the garden to quietly read etc. We also enjoyed watching some of the cds that were in the house. There are lots of nice walks near the house . As I said earlier the pool was very nice and it was very private with a lovely view of the forest and fields behind. Overall we had a very nice peaceful holiday in this pretty house.

We have stayed at so many places and this is the best villa / Gite / Cottage. Exceeded expectations, beautiful pool area, gardens, house and equipped with all and more than you could wish for.
Badminton tournaments, deer, foxes and hedgehogs in the garden. So many areas to chill, eat, chat and drink.
Beautiful surroundings and great bakery in the village for bread etc. Our french is not so good but we always try and the people were really friendly except when we ate in Francas restaurant which is highly reviewed. Food was awful too. Plenty of other options though and so much to do in the area.

This is the perfect getaway to relax, rejuvenate and unwind. The scenery was beautiful and the wildlife plentiful. Lazy days spent in the pool, evenings playing ping pong and family meals on the terrace. The villa has everything a family needs for a wonderful holiday. The owners have thought of everything and the villa is well stocked with books, films, board games and lots of information on the surrounding area. It is was a home away from home. When we did decide to venture out we found it was close driving distance to all major attractions such as Montignac, Lascaux, Hautefort and many other local tourist sites. Ross and Joni from Voila Villas were very helpful, welcoming and gave us some great advice regarding restaurants and life in this beautiful region. Thank you we definitely will come back.

A recommander.
