Hautefort isn't just a village; it’s an iconic landmark. Dominated by its majestic 17th-century château and surrounded by manicured French gardens, it serves as the ideal gateway to the Périgord Noir - and it is where the locals live all year round!

Why Hautefort is Your Perfect Home Base?

Hautefort isn't just a village; it’s a landmark. Dominated by its majestic 17th-century château and surrounded by manicured French gardens, it serves as the ideal gateway to the Périgord Noir. But more importantly, it is where the locals live.

Staying in a local gîte or villa allows you to live like a local—picking up fresh croissants at the boulangerie before heading out to explore the nearby "Cités de Caractère."

Ross and I live and work in Hautefort 'toute l'annee' and while we are here to shout about our holiday rentals, we also have a lot of local knowledge to share, so please ask!

  • Terrasson-Lavilledieu: Known for its "Jardins de l’Imaginaire" and its ancient stone bridge, it’s a beautiful spot for a riverside lunch. But promise you will walk up into the old town, and visit the artisan shops, climbing to the top to see the view and the impressive topiary ( there is parking too!). There's a choice of excellent restaurants in Terrassson, Restaurant Les Agapes, Le Moulin de l'Imaginaire. A must stop is to Atelier Julie-Z if pottery is your thing!
